#94 – Top Rated (1.3.08) – Education
Designed for medical examiners, forensic scientists, criminalists and the like, VeriChip’s Emergency Management solutions allow users to accurately manage, track, and inventory evidentiary items associated with small incidents, crime scenes, or mass disasters. When disasters occur, the VeriTrace system can work with VeriChip’s other implantable applications (VeriMed ) to aid in response and recovery efforts.

Imagine one identification number for everything associated with a crime, disaster, or the daily management of remains and evidentiary items. VeriTrace is the only end-to-end solution to manage & inventory remains & evidentiary items using implantable RFID tags.

The VeriTrace System incorporates implantable Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) microchips and Ricoh digital cameras, providing a complete end-to-end solution to manage, track, and inventory remains as well as all associated evidentiary items. Through this system, medical examiners, criminalists, investigators and forensic scientists can eliminate identification and tracking errors while speeding up their day-to-day processes.

VeriTrace . . .

* Can be combined with nearly every database and related IT system currently utilized in offices, departments, and facilities of medical examiners, coroners, criminalists, crime scene investigators, forensic scientists, sheriffs, police, and related industries.
* Provides a safe, efficient, and reliable procedure for large and small scale programs to assist in the management, tracking and identification of unknown remains and evidentiary items.

Take Action Today!

* Creates assurance in the identification and tracking process.
* Helps to eliminate misidentification.
* Removes any family member concern over improper or incorrect identification of remains.
* Can be ready through the materials used in post-mortem body bags.

VeriChip is the only FDA-approved human implantable RFID,
Class 2 Medical Device

* VeriChip™ RFID microchip, with its unique 16-digit identification number, creates a complete identification and tracking modality.
* At the time and point of the microchip’s insertion or attachment, a multitude of identifying characteristics of the body and associated evidentiary items can be entered into a web-enabled database. Users can now scan the microchip and transfer the ID to a Ricoh camera, which automatically embeds the VeriChip ID into every subsequent image taken. Ricoh cameras also use GPS to embed into the image the location where it was taken.
* The need to repeatedly open body bags to confirm or reconfirm identity is removed.
* Transfer of the microchip between remains is prevented due to its insertion within the body tissue or exposed bone. Unlike traditional paper “toe tags” or bar codes, detachment, obliteration, or switching are impossible.

Tajikistan : In Central Asia, early action saves lives

This video features the simulation exercise of the Tajikistan Red Crescent Society, conducted in the framework of an ECHO-funded disaster preparedness programme.

Shot on 23 September 2008 in the remote mountain area of Rasht valley, site of a strong earthquake on 22 July 2008, around 200 kms north-west of Dushanbe, capital of Tajikistan. Cameraman: Lev Konovalov.

When trained disaster response teams of Tajikistan Red Crescent volunteers and staff arrived on the site of an earthquake that measured 5.5 on the Richter scale in Rasht, eastern Tajikistan, only six hours after the disaster struck on 22 July last year, it was proof if needed that good, community-based disaster preparedness training helps save lives, reduce risk and promptly deliver vital assistance to survivors. The Red Crescent team was the first on the scene to provide first aid, assess needs and bring emergency relief to 720 of the most affected people.

Since the beginning of 2007, and with support from the European Commission humanitarian aid department (ECHO), the Red Crescent Societies in five Central Asian countries, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, have developed national and regional contingency plans and set up national disaster response teams to meet humanitarian needs more effectively in an extremely disaster-prone region.

The funding supports the training of national disaster preparedness teams in emergency response, first aid, relief coordination and needs assessments, the pre-positioning of stocks, as well as the setting up of telecommunications systems and logistics. Regular simulation exercises are also organized, to refresh peoples skills and knowledge about disaster preparedness, along with the distribution of information leaflets.

Together we prepare

A disaster resistant Bay Area. Will you be ready when disaster strikes?

This documentary from the American Red Cross Society Bay Area Chapter along with the Alameda City Fire Department and Alameda Power and Telecom in California, USA, show how disaster preparedness can help to prepare for and reduce the effects of disasters. That is, to predict and where possible prevent disasters, mitigate their impact on vulnerable populations, and respond to and effectively cope with their consequences.

Disaster can strike quickly, anytime day or night—and often without warning. It can separate you from your loved ones, force you to evacuate, or confine you to your home. With a disaster plan, supplies, and safety training, you will be ready to take care of yourself and your family.

The American Red Cross Bay Area Chapter, in conjunction with the Alameda Fire Department, and Alameda Power and Telecom, produced this video about disaster preparedness. Watch it and learn the American Red Cross’ basic steps to disaster preparedness:

MCCAIN’S HEALTH CARE PLAN: “A DISASTER, A DANGEROUS GAME”

JOHN MCCAIN: “We need to do for Health-Care insurance what we have done for the banking industry: deregulate.”…In a refrain weve heard many times in recent years, Mr. McCain said he is committed to ridding the market of these needless and costly insurance regulations.

This entire McCain health insurance transformation is right out of the right-wing Republicans ideological playbook: fewer regulations; let the market decide; and send unsophisticated consumers into the crucible alone.

You would think that with some of the most venerable houses on Wall Street crumbling like sand castles right before our eyes, wed be a little wary about spreading this toxic formula even further into the health care system. http://www.voteforchange.com/

Non-Discrimination in disaster response (2007 Tabasco floods)

This film chronicles the relief efforts of the Mexican Red Cross following the floods in Tabasco, Mexico in October of 2007 when over 1 million people were left homeless.

Vulnerable groups such as the elderly and disabled are often neglected after disasters and are therefore, doubly affected.

The film highlights the importance of prioritizing these often invisible groups and recognizing the important contribution that they can make in preparing for and responding to disasters.
