My question for you …
My question for you is, what is bacteria doing in there in the first place?
SODIS WATER!!! sun …
SODIS WATER!!! sun naturally will kill off any bacteria in a liter bottle of water within 6 hours!
It’s not …
It’s not undrinkable, even bad water is “drinkable” What happens is that any of the methods used to make it “storable” will begin to diminish. For example the chlorine that was present (done by the Water District) to keep bacteria at bay, has oxidized and is not longer effective. So you can stretch the 2 year mark…..but not by much. If you over chlorinate the water when you store it, or add a additional preservative, you can store the water for longer, up to 5 years.
Rotate often.
Why exactly is the …
Why exactly is the water undrinkable after two years?
I appreciate the …
I appreciate the series. Everyone should be concerned about water storage. I would like to mention however, that in time of need all water is usable. With boiling, filtering, chemical treating, it can all be used. Water can be stored in clean trash cans with lids. Whatever it takes to have and store water. It might have to be filtered or boiled but at least you have the water. Water from a roof can contain bird feces etc. It would still need to be cleaned in some way, but you would have it.
Build a still then …
Build a still then you can drink your pool water and make some moonshine
Having lived in …
Having lived in both Phoenix and SoCal, I’m not really very sympathetic to people who A) know they live in a desert and B) make no plans for what would happen if their fresh water supply were suddenly shut off. Thinning of the herds.
That sounds like …
That sounds like good advice….BUT. You could use that water for EVERY OTHER than drinking (Flushing the toilet, washing dishes/clothes, bathing and watering the garden!) If you have water, you have options. Make sure you watch all of my preparedness lectures. I would appreciate your opinion! Kory
I really enjoyed …
I really enjoyed your series but wanted to point out something in relation to your comments about drinking water gathered in rain barrows from the roof. In Chicago we have been advised by more than one source that drinking water from asphalt tiled roofs was a no no. In CA where there are more clay/slate/cedar tiled roofs it may be an option but for many parts of the US it is not.
