Urgent Disaster Response Question- please can you help?
Serious answers only please. I was wondering what, in an urban environment, the best vehicle for dealing with civil unrest (city war, rioting etc) would be, bearing in mind the streets would literally be clogged with hostile crowds.
The scenario we’ve been given is that we must drive through the city from A to B to pick up a friend, then back to point A, right through the trouble hotspots.
We’ve been given the options of a Porsche 911, to try and out-maneouvre crowds and other vehicles (driven by hostiles), or a Land Rover to basically smash through anything that gets in the way- which tactic is best, in all seriousness?
We are assuming that the hostiles are literally trying to topple the vehicle over and claw their way in, and you can drive anyway you want to to make sure you get your friend back to safety.

I would go with the Land Rover. I used to work in the car rental industry and I did a lot of accident reports and if you hit something or someone with the Porsche you will sustain at least some damage to the vehicle and could render it undriveable. But if you hit the same thing with a Land Rover it could still be drivable and you could still accomplish your task. I understand what you are saying about the speed but the faster you are going the more damage you could sustain. Also if you have to drive through fields or off the road, the Land Rover would be far better to be in.

It’s kind of a dumb scenario, but it’s simple enough. I think I’d go with the Land Rover. It’s more durable and capable of climbing over a lot of things, and a Porsche’ speed might not really come into play in a cluttered environment. The Rover could carry more too, including spare gas, water, armaments, etc.
Your best survival weapon is your brain. If you wait until people are rioting in the street, you lose. You should already have some basic survival gear/food and an exit strategy. As far as an emergency escape vehicle goes, I’d almost be willing to say a dirt-capable motorcycle or bicycle. In the final analysis, you should be able to walk 20 miles in a day with a backpack of supplies, which would get you out of most urban areas.

The biggest dump truck I could find. Power to crawl through anything plus it cannot be dumped over by the hostiles. You could have armed people in the back to shoot any one who gets close plus the sides would protect them from return fire of most things. It can also do about 60 mph if needed.

if you can drive literally how you want IE just drive through things other vehicles etc then the Landy every time I have driven one was involved in an accident where I ended up driving over a central reservation and through a fence the Landy was still going after the accident and it was 22 years old it did need some minor repairs after the 30 mph crash that damaged 30 foot of fence that was made with 4*2 fencing pine

If the Porsche would do it, then the US Military would have thousands of the things. But think: debris-strewn streets, and a low-down, two-wheel drive hotrod, or an off-road, four-wheel-drive bruiser with loadsaclearance. Surely I needn’t spell it out for you?

The land rover would be the best option, its much more rugged and you have the option of four wheel drive. Perfect for when you might have to mount the pavement or such. The Porsche is so low down it would get grounded!!

I don’t know what organisation has given you this scenario but this is nonsense.
If Civil Unrest occurs in this country and the streets are clogged up, the Police will stop traffic and divert the vehicles as and when necessary.
Nobody has any right to pass the Police cordon. Not even an Ambulance or Fire Engine. They are allowed through on the advice of the Police. As a civilian, no matter what the need, your passage through would be denied, and rightly so.
The only vehicles allowed to pass are already issued with such information. I know but cannot tell you who they are.
