Preparedness Plus Chance Equals Success
How many times has something good come into your life and you were not prepared to embrace it? This happens to so many people. When a special chance to do or have something great presents itself, most people will not be ready. How disappointing!
Preparedness plus chance equals success. Believing you can succeed and preparing to succeed go hand in hand. Both are an extremely vital part of winning in life. In fact, a person will not even prepare to win if he does not even believe he can. Otherwise, why would he put in all the necessary effort it takes to succeed if he really doesn’t believe he ever will?
Many people want to win in life, but their self-image limits them on how far they actually can go. Your self image is how you see yourself, and if you see yourself as a loser you will not even prepare to win. The fact is, a person will only prepare to succeed if he really and truly believes he can.
Part of preparation is seeing yourself as a winner. You cannot attract to yourself anything that is greater than the way you see yourself. Therefore, if you become, you can attract. Until you begin to think and act like the person who has the things you desire you will not attract those things.
A common misconception concerning success is that it comes from luck. How many times have you heard people say something like, “He was just in the right place at the right time” to explain away someone else’s success? It’s a myth, just like the idea of the overnight success. The chances of becoming a success due to luck are about as good as winning the lottery–50 million to 1.
When you succeed, because you prepared to succeed, others may explain it away as luck. How irritated will you be, knowing you have toiled, sweated, and teared in order to prepare for the success you enjoy, and someone says you were just lucky?
One must understand that champions aren’t made on the day of the game. That’s simply the day the world recognizes all of the preparation that took place before that day arrived. In thousands of little ways, these champions disciplined themselves to do the things that everyone else could’ve done, but didn’t.
The cheering crowds, television cameras, and reporters aren’t around when champions are made because they’re made in the early morning hours when everyone else is sleeping in just a little bit longer, and in the late evening hours when everyone else has given up for the day.
The will to succeed is obviously important, but what’s more important is the will to prepare.
Preparing to win is not doing the big things most people think. It usually isn’t the big things that will cause you to succeed in life anyway, but it’s all of the little things that you can do over and over. For example, the discipline to plan each day’s work the night before, no matter how tired you are, will have more to do with your success than any big thing you will do. Also, little things like hitting mute on the tv during commercials so you can grab a little reading time. Not a big thing, but a necessary thing in preparing to win.
Prepare to succeed by first believing that you can and then do the little necessary things required, for preparedness plus chance equals success. When the next chance to do or have something great presents itself, will you be ready? Life is way to short to be missing out!

BatchMaster has more than a hundred technical staff numbers of highly-qualified software professionals.
Preston Blevins, vice-president with BatchMaster (www.batchmaster.com) received the APICS (Association for Operations Management) CSCP certification and recently contributed a feature article for the APICS newsletter titled, “Conformance for Performance.” Blevins highlights the importance of the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism preparedness and Response Act implemented through regulatory compliance requirements to ensure food safety. Blevins acknowledged that, “Solving the problem is not easy given the size of the food and beverage manufacturing industry. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises that there are 400,000 United States-based food and beverage companies, many of them small enterprises. Food safety and food defense are often confused by those outside the food industry. Food defense is concerned with the physical security of the manufacturing site and employee screening. Food safety is about the disciplined management of processes, application of science, and accurate record keeping. Much of this is in eight requirements established by the FDA. The one that can lead to world-class inventory management is Section 306, the final FDA directive on interpretation and implementation of the Bioterrorism Act—a record-keeping requirement for full lot traceability of all ingredients used in the manufacturing process and products produced.”
Blevins notes that Section 306 is explicit as to what is required; however, the power for improvement is in the implied requirements. The reason: If there is a lot recall and people’s health and lives are at risk, what good is an inaccurate lot trace record? The implied requirement is absolute accuracy in all information contained in the lot trace record. How does a company achieve the data accuracy needed to satisfy the implied requirement of Section 306 that also provides the foundation for world-class inventory management?
What is the data quality level needed? It must exceed the long-accepted target values used when building products that are not life threatening:
? Recipes/bills of material = 98% +
? Inventory record accuracy = 98% +
? Order shipping accuracy = 99% +.
To satisfy the implied requirements of Section 306, company management must look at recipe management, shipment receipts, warehouse (stockroom) processes, inventory records, and computer-supported lot trace.
Recipe management (bills of material), shipment receipts, warehouse (stockroom) processes, inventory records and computer-supported lot trace are all addressed in the APICS newsletter feature article.

Hurricane Preparedness Tips
Hurricanes are a powerful force of nature that thrives on the oceans where they are born but as they move inland they can be disastrous with heavy rains and winds.
There is no town, city, or country that is safe from the fury of Mother Nature. So the best thing to do is be prepared and these hurricane preparedness tips will help you do just that.
There are some terms you need to know. Flood Watch means a flood is possible in your area. A Flood Warning means flooding is already happening and will soon reach your area. And flash floods can develop within a couple of minutes so anytime you hear this warning you need to take action right away.
Before the storm hits you should:
Monitor your local weather station or news for warnings, watches, and any other important information.
1. Secure any loose patio furniture, garbage cans, gardening equipment and anything else that could get lift and cause damage or come flying through a window.
2. Learn the safest route from where you live to a safe zone. You may not have a lot of time to evacuate which is why it’s important to know the route in advance.
3. Decide on a central meeting ground where all family will meet in the event they become separated.
4. You need to have a well stocked first aid kit and emergency kit which would have flashlights, batteries, water, food supplies, and a battery operated radio.
When the flood warning has been issued you need to:
1. Be alert to any signs of flooding and flood waters threatening your home. Don’t wait, evacuate right away.
2. Follow evacuation routes that have been established. Do not take other roots that may pose a serious risk.
3. When driving if you are faced with water that is rapidly rising don’t try to go through instead turn around and find another route. If you proceed you may be risking your life.
Take Action Today!
If Heavy Rains Hit you need to:
1. Follow any evacuation orders moving to safe ground immediately.
2. Keep your battery radio tuned to the local station for further evacuation instructions.
3. Never wade into a flooded area. They can be very deceptive. The water could be much deeper than it appear, the ground underneath could be washed away. Never drive or walk on a flooded road.
After The Flood you need to:
1. When it has been deemed safe to return home you will want to examine the structure of your home before entering looking for any collapsing. Watch for snakes and rodents too. they come in with the water.
2. Watch for electrical wires that are live. Make sure the power has been turned off.
3. Begin cleaning up as soon as it is safe to do so. Throw away any contaminated goods, throw away perishable goods. Wash any canned goods that can be salvaged with soap and water.
4. Do not drink the water unless officials have indicated it is safe to do so.
5. If the power goes out you may need to rely on generators and candles but you need to also make sure that you are operating them properly. Do not overload your generator and make sure that you plug individual items into the plug.
6. Do not use charcoal in the house.
7. Try to use flashlights rather than candles as it is a much safer alternative and never leave your candles unattended even for just a little while.
These hurricane preparedness tips will help you stay safe before, during, and after the hurricane.

What would you put in a flood preparedness kit?

What do you think should be in it?

Earthquake Preparedness and Kits
Earthquake preparedness plans and kits can save your life when you least expect it. Since there is no way of predicting when an earthquake will strike, having earthquake emergency kits handy can spell the difference between life and death. Remember that in times of calamities and disasters, paramedics, police, firefighters, and other first responders cannot always arrive when you needed them so you have to be responsible for the safety and survival of yourself and your family until help arrives.
The staples of every earthquake preparedness and kits are first aid supplies, medicines, and several gallons of drinking water and enough food for your whole family that will last for at least three days. You should also include gadgets and tools such as battery operated lights and lamps, transistor radio, and mobile phone or other types of communication device that will help you survive even when there is no electricity and gas. Some people even recommend buying furniture-fastening straps, safety adhesive fasteners, and other implements that can keep your furniture, drawers, cupboards and other fixtures from falling off. Cutting tools and fire extinguishers must also be within easy reach so that you can cut off water and gas pipes and extinguish fire when it happens after the earthquake.
In order to increase survival rate, each member of your family should know where to get your earthquake preparedness supplies and know what to do when an earthquake strikes. Even if you have dozens of earthquake emergency kits scattered in your house, if you do not have any idea how to protect yourself from falling objects and other things that can harm you during and after the quake, your kits will be of little use. So you have to remember to discuss earthquake survival with your family so that they will know what to do wherever they may be. Also, since nobody can be sure what time an earthquake will hit, it is advisable to designate a meeting place for your family in case it is no longer safe to stay in your home.
Disastrous seismic activities are quite rare, but your earthquake preparedness gear can also be used during other emergency and disaster situations. Just make sure that you immediately replenish your supplies after using them for other purposes. Also, do remember to check your kits every six to twelve months to replace stored water, canned goods and other food items, and medicines.

Tips for Preparing Your Earthquake Preparedness Kits
What should your earthquake preparedness kits contain? If you live in a region of the world that is susceptible to these natural disasters, then being prepared is an unpleasant fact.
It is better to be prepared as it could be the difference between life and death. Earthquake preparedness kits give you and your family time for the rescue crews to reach you.
Some of the basic staples for an emergency kit include medicine, batteries, and flashlights, matches, charged cell phone, first aid kits and plenty of non-perishable food. In addition, as much water as you can provide is very important.
Your earthquake preparedness kits should also include a fire extinguisher, sharp cutting instruments and heavy-duty tape such as duct tape.
You should make sure every member of your family is aware of where the emergency kits are located. It may be a good idea to have more than one located around the house in case you are separated from your family or part of your home is inaccessible after an earthquake.
Your family should also know exactly what to do when an earthquake strikes. This is a key element of all earthquake preparedness kits. If the home is too damaged to stay in it, then you should have a meeting location pre-arranged. It would be beneficial if the family members had access to two-way radios in case of becoming separated from the family.
Earthquakes happen all over the world and it is important that you make sure your family is prepared if you live in one of these regions. Earthquake preparedness kits could help save the lives of you and your family. Check the expiry date on the canned food as well. Moreover, you need to verify the expiry date of any medicine too. Water should be replaced on a regular basis too.
Always make sure your earthquake preparedness kits are fully stocked and in addition, make sure everything works such as batteries, radios etc.

Preparing For An Industrial Emergency – How To Go About Emergency Preparedness!
Most large corporations recognize the benefits to emergency preparedness to protect their people and property in the case of an industrial emergency. They don’t want to lose important business by allowing interruptions in production and operations due to an industrial emergency.
Effective emergency preparedness planning helps them identify potential hazards and conditions that might not have been recognized in the absence of planning and preparation. Industrial emergencies are not only costly. They can be deadly.
A good emergency preparedness procedure will assure vulnerabilities are exposed and addressed. Just a few examples of the many possible vulnerabilities that could create or exacerbate an industrial emergency include inadequate maintenance of or outdated equipment, insufficient training for personnel, inappropriate supplies, or poor facility design.
By developing a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan, corporations can correct potential problems before an industrial emergency occurs. Such planning can prevent losses of life and property and can protect the corporation from financial collapse.
Companies that follow these basic steps will be more likely to prevent or survive an industrial emergency.
The Emergency Preparedness Team
The company should set up a solid planning team that includes both managers and staff with the appropriate set of skills and experience to conduct the emergency preparedness process.
The team should establish a schedule, assign roles and responsibilities, and encourage wide participation in the process to assure buy-in and participation at all levels in the event of an industrial emergency.
The Emergency Preparedness Assessment
The first step in constructing an effective emergency preparedness plan is to assess current conditions and capabilities, including documenting the organization’s current preparedness assets (for example, describe what the company has available today to address power failures and how it handles them when they occur). A complete inventory of equipment, supplies, and personnel would be included, as would a review of the facilities involved.
Emergency preparedness for an industrial emergency should also involve communications with local emergency managers in the community, such as floodplain oversight agencies, fire and police departments, and environmental agencies. This makes it easier to assess the possible impact of industrial emergencies on the community and to arrange for immediate and cooperative responses on the part of emergency responders.
Having gathered exhaustive information about the facility, staff, and established procedures, the team will then develop a step-by-step outline to describe what must be done to respond to industrial accidents and prevent further damage. These step-by-step outlines should be developed for any conceivable problem (such as flooding, fires and explosions, natural disasters, structural damages, etc.).
The team must ensure that the emergency preparedness plan include back-ups for major systems that must continue to operate in spite of an industrial emergency. It is important to assure that alternate power sources are available and that there are alternatives for staffing that will protect health and safety while operations continue.
The plan should include steps to protect and retain important company records, and the team should identify any and all training necessary to prepare staff to respond.
Finally, the plan should address emergency shut-down and re-start procedures should it become necessary to suspend operations during the industrial emergency.
The team will then present their recommendations to management and most likely to staff as well. After a process of review and revision, the final emergency preparedness plan will be adopted and put in place.
Emergency Preparedness Plan Implementation
After the plan is approved and adopted, it must be put in operation. Facility alterations, equipment configurations and replacements, emergency supply procurements, and a staff training program will be undertaken.
Implementation should include establishing an emergency operations center and a way to ensure communications with state and local agencies that may be involved.
When these efforts are complete, the company should be in a position to address any potential industrial emergency.
If an industrial emergency does occur, the team will be responsible for assessing response effectiveness after the fact and then making necessary modifications in the existing plan.
The company should not hesitate to modify current operating procedures to include health and safety measures that become part of the daily routine.
After an industrial emergency, the corporation will have to assess damages and undertake needed repairs and reparations. Depending on the nature of the industry, community involvement and participation may be necessary, and the company should be prepared to work with community leaders and affected citizens who may have been impacted by the emergency. If the emergency preparedness plan has been successful, the company’s prompt, capable response should reassure the community that, despite the potential for industrial emergencies, the industry is an asset to the community.
