This question is for the Australian yahoo answers users only!, i’ve heard how pets behave very strangely if they can sense when a natural disaster i.e. bushfire is about to occur. I would like to know what behaviour signs do i need to look for in my pet budgie if a disaster is about to happen
Just to add he’s a hand raised budgie and very tame, never goes outside

Let it out of the cage…….if it flies away….that’s a pretty good sign!
Seriously though, birds have an unusual behavior, you will surely notice any behavioral changes if there is any sort of disaster about to occur, for instance your bird might start whistling quite erratic and fluttering around it’s cage.

Take Action Today!

also watch to see if it starts storing food and eating sparingly, unless it is in a panic and then it just won’t eat at all, finally, you said the bird is hand raised, being very social it might get clingy by flying to you and not wanting to leave your presence of protection.

Im writing an essay on how the battle of dieppe was a disaster and should never of happend. Im looking for some points to argue for in my essay. Im canadian (canadian things would be better) but its all fine with me!

Dieppe is a Canadian Thing, as a substantial percentage of the attacking force was Canadian.

It was a disaster in the sense that most of the attacking force was killed or captured; that part is easy.

But it served an important purpose. The Allies needed to test German defenses in order to gauge whether a full scale invasion was viable. Dieppe showed that it wasn’t, at least not then.

The second thing is that the lessons learned in the Dieppe raid were applied during the Normandy invasion in 1944. The losses at Dieppe were not totally in vain.

I’m a nurse but rather than volunteering, I’d like to work for an organization that would send me around the world wherever there is a need for assistance in the event of a disaster. Does anyone know of such an organization?

Start with the American Red Cross.

Also look at the UN

Problem: A $250,000.00 House & Land, 2 cars at $85,000.00 combined, a $40,000.00 boat, a $25,000.00 camping trailer, a $15,000.00 motorcycle, $25,000.00 in furniture, and an additional $60,000.00 in various goods and products , for a total of : $500,000.00 in total listed losses from a tornado/hurricane wiping out my real estate property.

What percentage of the property is covered by disaster insurance, generally?

The cars and motorcycle should be covered under their own policies. Depending on the type of boat and trailer, same with them. (If it is a small boat, under $40k, it might have coverage).

What will be covered for your house depends on your policy. If the replacement cost of your house is $250k, and you have $250k of coverage, it will be replaced completely, less your deductible. Most home policies have coverage for personal property (not counting vehicles and large boats) of 50% of the value of your home. In this case, up to $125k. This seems to be enough to cover your personal stuff.

You need to try to remember what company insured your house and vehicles, and give them a call. Hopefully you were insured up to the value of your house. If this is the case, you are ok. If you had a house worth $250k but only had $125 worth of coverage, you would only receive 50% of your damages (since you were only 50% insured).

Good luck.

This is for accounting homework..
The farm has barns and sheds worth $19,100
A tornado struck and completely destroyed one of the barns, worth $45,00. It was not insured against this type of disaster.

Explain what changes will be required in your balance sheet to reflect the loss of this barn.

Your transaction entry should consist of three items:

1. Credit assets for the original cost of the barn.
2. Debit accumulated depreciation for the amount associated with the barn.
3. Debit Extraordinary Expenses with the balance.

By the way, it doesn’t matter if this occurs within the "normal" tornado belt or someplace where a tornado occurs once in a century. The loss of property, even in the tornado belt, is a rare occurrence.

Hope this helps

Im trying to find the worst man-made or technological disaster. Im having trouble narrowing it down or even finding a good list. I guess i would classify it as the worst by the highest death toll. Sources appreciated
Im looking for like a single event, not a war or famine or anything of that nature.

That Chernobyl accident might top the list. The ‘official’ death toll was something like 4000. But other estimates put the subsequent cancer deaths over 15 years at close to 250,000.

I can’t think of anything bigger than that.
